O documentário Tarrafal, Dez Pancadas no Carril é uma reflexão cine-poética sobre a memória do Campo de Concentração do Tarrafal. Pretende sobretudo perceber o mecanismo da memória de um espaço que serviu para aniquilar pessoas que eram contra o regime salazarista e que depois serviu para outras atividades. Saber a importância do espaço na memória coletiva em Portugal, Cabo Verde, Guiné Bissau e Angola, países diretamente ligados ao espaço. No sentido de não ser um filme demasiadamente etéreo e sem compromisso ideológico é que contará e descreverá o papel do Campo de Concentração do Tarrafal nas políticas de extermínio das oposições políticas ao regime vigente em Portugal e territórios ultramarinos. Falar de um espaço que pertence ao nosso passado recente e que representa um dos momentos mais escuros e terríveis dessa mesma História. O tempo teima em apagar esse período, pelo que proponho uma reflexão sobre esse mesmo processo de esquecimento. Perguntando, em última análise, se a continuação da existência dos espaço físico do Campo de Concentração é um garante da memória da sua história e do seu papel como elemento de destruição da oposição ao Regime que ele representa.
The documentary, Tarrafal, Chain Gang Circus, is a cinematic reflection of a memory of the Concentration Camp at Tarrafal. Above all it aims to understand the way of remembering a place that served to annihilate those who opposed the Salazar Regime and then was used for other activities. Knowing the importance of this place in the collective memory of Portugal, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau and Angola; countries directly linked to Tarrafal. In order to avoid being a directly ethereal film and without ideological commitment, the film describes the role of Tarrafal´s Concentration Camp and its policies of exterminating political oppositions to the contemporary regime in Portugal and its overseas territories. The film speaks of a place that belongs in our recent history and which represents the darkest and most horrifying moments of this same history. Time attempts to erase this period, and so I propose a reflection of this same process of forgetting, ultimately asking whether the continued existence of the Concentration Camp´s physical space is a guaranteed reminder of its history or of its role as a destructive element of opposition to the Regime that it represents. |
