Satoshi Terao, empregado da Mitsobishi Corporation, em Lisboa, parte em busca de raízes onde possa absorver a seiva que lhe alimente a alma. A cada fim-de-semana, veste-se de descobridor e parte, perscrutando paisagens, percorrendo aldeias, lendo os sinais que o tempo cristalizou. Nem ele sabe o que busca, um misto de pureza original onde possa sentir o pulsar do mundo, talvez uma natureza que ainda deslumbre, um não sei quê entre planta, música e cheiro a terra, talvez um acreditar rente ao celebrar das estações do ano. Deixa a grande cidade, despojado do ruído que a civilização foi acumulando. Leva consigo os olhos, uma cultura imensa e a humildade dos que procuram: vê, ouve, cheira, regista, ordena. Homem de poucas falas, abre-se num sorriso tímido, como porta que convida a entrar quem vier por bem. Sem saber o que vai encontrar, como os portugueses que chegaram ao Japão em 1543, Satoshi Terao faz agora um caminho de regresso, quase cinco séculos depois, à descoberta de algo que já não se encontrava nas progressivas cidades japonesas ou europeias. Acredita que a descoberta é, ainda hoje, um milagre dos que buscam. Faz parte daquela estirpe de gente que acredita no mundo e nas pessoas e não desiste de um nem de outras. Um dia, levado pelo instinto e uma espécie de saudade primitiva chega à Terra de Miranda.
Satoshi Terao, an ex-Mitsubishi Corporation employee in Lisbon, discovers the Land of Miranda (small region in the north of Portugal) and realises that there are many things that links Portuguese and Japanese cultures.
Every weekend he dresses himself as an explorer and leaves in search of landscapes, passing through villages, reading the signs that the time crystallized.
He doesn’t even know exactly what he is looking for, a mist of singular purity where he can feel the beat of the world, maybe a nature that still fascinates, something between a plant, music or the smell of the land.
He leaves the big city, filled with the noise that the civilization has been accumulating and immerses in the culture with the humility from those who search: he sees, listen, smells, man of few words, opens himself in a timid smile, as a door that invites those with good grace.
Nearly 5 centuries after the arrival of the Portuguese in Japan, Satoshi Terao is now on his way back. Without knowing what he will find, just as the Portuguese who arrived in Japan in 1543, he is going to discover something that he hasn't yet found in progressive Japanese or European cities. One day, led by instinct and a kind of primitive nostalgia, he arrives in the land of Miranda.
Satoshi is now back in Japan and is an Assistant Professor of International Culture at Kobe University and has completed his masters degree in Mirandese culture.
